1998 - 2001

The Shoals of Capricorn Programme was a major science research, training and education programme run in Mauritius and Seychelles by the Royal Society and Royal Geographical Society (with IBG). Its aim was to conduct applied marine research in the region of the Mascarene Ridge. The programme will contribute to the understanding of past and present processes relevant to managing the area and optimising its productivity in terms of resources and services. It will also aid in ensuring sustainable development and conservation of the marine and coastal environments of the Seychelles and Mauritius.

The Programme has three overarching, inter-linked elements: Research, Training and Education. The CCRU's director, Dr. Tom Spencer acted as the programme's Science Plan Co-ordinator.
