In 2002, five workshops with international participation were held to aid the technical planning for the International Discussion Meeting and to highlight the key scientific issues determining current understanding of the phenomena and trends underlying the safeguarding of Venice and its Lagoon.

  • Venice flooding; architectural and structural issues;
  • Engineering solutions to the flooding of Venice;
  • Physical and ecological processes in the Venice Lagoon;
  • Mathematical modelling of hydrodynamics, water quality and morphology of the lagoon; and
  • Global environmental change, uncertainty and risk: Venice and the North Adriatic Sea
